Dungeons & Dragons 5e

Check out our large selection of DnD 5e books! We of course carry all the core rulebooks: the DnD 5e Player’s Handbook, which you use to create your characters; the DnD 5e Dungeon Master’s Guide, which helps you make your adventures and campaigns even more exciting; and the DnD 5e Monster Manual, where you’ll find all the common and rare creatures you might encounter on your journeys.

D&D is more popular than ever!

D&D has reached incredible levels of popularity. More and more people are getting into tabletop role‑playing games, especially D&D 5e. Dungeons & Dragons 5e is accessible, easy to start, and it feels very similar to the video games many young people already play, which often draws them toward the more social experience of tabletop role‑playing instead of sitting alone at a computer. Whatever the reason, there’s no doubt that D&D 5e is here to stay!

When was Dungeons & Dragons 5e released?

D&D 5e was released in 2014 and has enjoyed tremendous success ever since. More than 20 original D&D 5e books have been published. The very first edition of D&D came out back in 1974, created by Gary Gygax and Dave Arneson. Since then, the game has gone through many versions, with five of them being major core editions.

How do you play Dungeons & Dragons 5e?

First, you gather a group of 3–7 people, with one person acting as the Dungeon Master. The Dungeon Master’s (or DM’s) job is to prepare the adventure that the rest of the players will embark on. You can start with the D&D 5e Starter Set, which includes pre‑made characters and only requires the DM to spend about an hour reading and preparing. This is what we at Epic Panda recommend if no one in the group has played D&D 5e before.

Another way to begin is by getting the D&D 5e Player’s Handbook, which explains how to create characters and includes all the core rules. In addition to the rules, you’ll need character sheets (which can be bought separately or copied from the Player’s Handbook), a pencil, and an eraser. Finally, you’ll need a set of role‑playing dice. These dice sets contain seven special dice ranging from 4 to 20 sides.

Once your characters are created and the Dungeon Master has prepared the adventure, you’re ready to begin! You play your character as if you were that person, describing what they would do in any given situation. You can play “socially,” talking your way out of trouble and charming the dragon, or you can choose to fight! If combat breaks out, it’s important that each player understands the combat rules. This is very easy if you’re using the D&D 5e Starter Set, as everything is explained simply. Otherwise, we recommend that at least one person in the group has played D&D 5e before, as it’s much easier to learn by being shown than by reading everything from scratch.
